Starting pitching leads Softball to sweep over Millersville

The Bald Eagles returned home on Friday afternoon to host Millersville for a PSAC East doubleheader

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Keiva Middleton and Talia Ross limited Millersville to one run over 14 innings to lead the Lock Haven softball team to a 2-1, 2-0 sweep in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Lawrence Field.

Lock Haven 19-13 overall and 9-7 in the PSAC East. Millersville moves to 17-15 on the season and 7-9 in the conference.

The Haven continues to roll and have now won eight of their nine games to vault right into the heart of the PSAC postseason chase. Depending on today's action around the conference, the Bald Eagles could jump into a tie for third and just one game out of first.

Game 1: Lock Haven 2, Millersville 1
Behind another gem from Ross (12-4) and a pair of RBIs from Madison Hardy, the Bald Eagles took game one, 2-1.

Ross picked up her 12th victory on the season as she went the distance and limited the Ville to one run on three hits, while striking out a game-high nine hitters.

Her 12 victories are tied for second in the conference.

Hardy drove in a pair of runs with a sacrifice fly and a single up the middle to headline The Haven on offense. Maci Brodzina added a double.

Game 2: Lock Haven 2, Millersville 0
In game two, Middleton threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout to pick up her second victory in the circle on the year.

The nightcap featured a pitchers' duel that remained scoreless through the first three and a half innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, The Haven loaded the bases with two outs and Madison Melius hit a ball up the middle the pitcher couldn't handle, allowing Madeline Millard to come around to score to put the Bald Eagles up 1-0.

The Haven added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an RBI-single by Abby Robertson and Middleton shut the door in the seventh to secure the victory.

Hardy doubled twice and Abby Robertson drove in a run to headline The Haven offense. Blaire Balestrini and Hailey Irwin also doubled.

Next up for The Haven:
The Bald Eagles return home to Lawrence Field tomorrow afternoon to host West Chester in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. Tomorrow is also the program's Morgan Message doubleheader in honor of mental health awareness.
