Softball bounces back with sweep at Mansfield

The Bald Eagles swept Mansfield on the road on Tuesday afternoon

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Lock Haven softball team traveled to Mansfield on Tuesday afternoon for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East doubleheader and took care of business as the Bald Eagles swept the Mounties, 9-0 (5 Innings) and 4-3.
 
With the sweep, The Haven snapped a four-game skid to improve to 25-17 on the season and 15-11 in the PSAC East. The Bald Eagles are currently in third place in the Eastern Division and are tied in the win column for second with Shippensburg. Lock Haven finished the home-and-home series a perfect 4-0 vs. Mansfield.
 
Mansfield falls to 6-28 overall and 3-23 in the conference.
 
Game 1: Lock Haven 9, Mansfield 0
In game one, Lock Haven erupted for seven runs in the top of the fourth and Talia Ross threw a one-hitter to run away with a 9-0 run-rule victory.
 
Ross (15-6) went all five innings and struck out eight hitters and allowed just two baserunners to earn her team-high 15th victory on the year. Ross threw a no-hitter against the Mounties in an 8-0 (5 Innings) victory on March 25.
 
Gianna Goodman (2B), Abby Robertson (2B) and Maci Brodzina (2B) all finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Evelyn Osborne (2B) also drove in a pair. Blaire Balestrini also added two hits.
 
Game 2: Lock Haven 4, Mansfield 3
In the nightcap, Balestrini drove in all four Lock Haven runs in three different innings and Keiva Middleton (4-4) limited Mansfield to three runs to pick up the win in the circle.
 
Ross threw the final 1.1 innings in relief to earn the save.
 
Middleton went 5.2 innings and didn't allow an earned run, while striking out five.
 
Balestrini finished the game 3-for-3 at the dish with four RBIs and a stolen base. Goodman walked three times and came around to score each time she was on base.
 
Next up for The Haven:
The Bald Eagles return home to Lawrence Field on Friday, April 24 and will host Bloomsburg in a PSAC East doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Military & Veterans Appreciation Day.
