Frair earns gold in Steeplechase & Bellomo takes second in Decathlon on Day 2 of PSAC Outdoor Championships

Freshman Brayden Frair of the Lock Haven men’s track and field team won the 3000m Steeplechase and Nick Bellomo finished second in the Decathlon on Day 2 of the PSAC Outdoor Championships.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's outdoor track and field team completed the second of three days of competition at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championships in Shippensburg, Pa., on Friday (May 1).

Freshman phenom Brayden Frair took home his first taste of gold in the 3000m Steeplechase with a new personal-best.

Frair won a close finish behind the time of 9:23.36 to conclude a strong day of performances from the Bald Eagles and earned 10 team points.

Nick Bellomo earned second place in the Decathlon behind his great efforts in the Pole Vault.

Bellomo cleared 14-7.5 (4.45m) in the event and finished with his season-best 6644 points to earn All-PSAC honors.

Josiah Schans cruised to first in the prelims of the hurdle events. Schans earned an NCAA provisional time of 14.27 in the 110m Hurdles and finished the 400m Hurdles in 53.30. He will compete in the finals of both events tomorrow as the top qualifier.

Matt Reinard also earned a spot in the finals of the 400m Hurdles with the third-best preliminary time of 54.44

Three Bald Eagles qualified for the finals in the 800m, highlighted by the performance of Jakob Rager. Rager finished with the best preliminary time of 1:53.69.

Anden Aitkins and Morgan Gavitt were the other two qualifiers in the 800m. Aitkins finished in 1:54.15 (fourth) and Gavitt crossed the line in 1:55.14 (eighth).

Benjamin Warburton set a personal-best mark in the Long Jump and earned a trip to the finals before finishing ninth with a 23-6.75 (7.18m).

Braedon Firanski had a strong performance in the Discus Throw by making it to the finals. Firanski reached a mark of 148-1 (45.15m) and finished in ninth place.

Ben Gusciora and Sam Wible wrapped up successful freshman seasons by finishing 14th in their respective events. Gusciora cleared 5-11.25 (1.81m) in the High Jump and Wible finished the 400m in 49.94.

Lock Haven currently sits in fourth place in the team competition with 24 team points.
