During the 2018 season, Cockill served as the varsity pitching coach at Devon Preparatory School.

After transferring from Mercer County Community College, Cockill enjoyed a strong two-year playing career at Lock Haven during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, serving primarily in a relief role. In 2017, he made 15 appearances on the mound for the Bald Eagles, who won a school-record 32 games and qualified for their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament since 2009. Cockill was 3-0 in 2016.

Prior to transferring to Lock Haven, he was an important member of the pitching staff at National Junior College Athletic Assocation (NJCAA) Division II power Mercer County C.C., where he helped the team to a number of on-field successes.
