Shannon Gerencir will be entering her third season (2018) in charge of the Bald Eagles. She was named head coach in July 2016.
Gerencir enters the 2018 season with an overall career record of 223 wins and 253 losses. Her record over 15 years at West Virginia State University was 206-214 with a 132-87 record in the Mountain East Conference. Her current record in two seasons with LHU is 17-39 with a 9-27 record in the PSAC.
In the second year of her tenure, the Bald Eagles saw a five-game win improvement and posted a record of 11 wins and 19 losses.
In 2017, Shaye Whiteman provided the highlight, finishing number one in all NCAA Divisions (I,II,III) in digs per set with 7.26 and finished the season with 777 digs, which is 7th all-time in the PSAC single season record book.
Under her first year, the Bald Eagles had a young group as they only had three seniors on the roster. They finished the year with an overall record of 6-20 and 5-13 in conference action.
Highlighting the season was Sydney Belcastro who broke the LHU all-time record for digs in a career. She finished with 2,312 digs which also ranks her No. 5 all-time in the PSAC Conference record books
Previous to LHU Gerencir spent 15 seasons at West Virginia State, where she led them to a pair of conference championships and led the team to two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances. Twice, she was named conference coach of the year.
She has served as the Chair of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Volleyball Coaches Association and also holds positions on the NCAA Division II Regional Ranking Committee and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Volleyball Ranking Committee.
While at West Virginia State, Gerencir also served as the Athletic Department’s Senior Women’s Administrator and Academic Liaison, and in 2013, she was named the Assistant Director of Athletics.
Gerencir is a 1993 graduate of the University of Charleston, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in biology.
Shannon her husband Eric, are the proud parents of a daughter, Payton. They also have three dogs.
