HAMPTON, Va. – The Lock Haven University baseball team upset No. 5 Kutztown University 8-4 in the championship game of the 2011 Builder Invitational hosted by the Apprentice School.

With the win the Bald Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season and win their first tournament title in the 17-year history of the Builder Invitational.

The win also snapped the Golden Bears run of six straight titles in Hampton, Va.

The Bald Eagles jumped all over KU early, posting a five-run inning in the top of the second.

Lock Haven scored its eight runs on eight hits and LHU got another solid pitching effort.

Cody Young (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) and Robert Guild (Ogdensburg, N.J./Sussex County C.C.) both went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Corey Fassett (Tunkhannock, Pa./Lackawanna College) was 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Freshman Brandon Renoll (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) made his first career start and put in a sensational effort over 6.1 innings. He struck out a pair and walked two.

Renoll gave way to Andrew Simonik (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) who worked 1.2 innings and recorded one strikeout.

Stephen Brush (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was dominant in the final inning of work. Brush, who will look to be a huge key for LHU this season as the closer fanned two to end the game.

The Bald Eagles are off until Sunday, March 6 when they take on Urbana University in Clearwater Fla. The Haven will play eight games in Florida from March 6-12 at the Winning Inning NCAA Division II Invitational.
