LHU celebrates “Dig Pink” game with 3-0 sweep of East Stroudsburg

Lady Eagles raise money for breast cancer awareness

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (14-9, 9-3 PSAC) swept East Stroudsburg University (7-14, 4-9 PSAC) today 3-0 during its “Dig Pink” game at Thomas Fieldhouse.

Tonight's game was one of two “Dig Pink” matches this season. The Lady Eagles wore special pink uniforms tonight and sold pink shirts at the match to support the Side-Out Foundation and breast cancer awareness.  The Haven will also celebrate “Dig Pink” on October 26, when they host West Chester University.  All donations from “Dig Pink” are given directly to the Side-Out Foundation.

The Lady Eagles came out working on all cylinders tonight in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Thomas Fieldhouse and after hanging on to take the first two sets 25-23 and 26-24, LHU shut the door on ESU with a 25-10 third set win.

Gao Xuan (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School) and Grace Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) led LHU with 10 kills each.
Dig Pink

Novacek's 10 kills came off of just 17 attempts, as she posted an outstanding .471 hitting percentage.

Xuan also tallied 12 digs and five blocks in the match.

Bailey Farthing (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) had eight kills for LHU and blocked a team-high seven Warrior attempt's.


Haven setter Alexa Garrity (Boothwyn, Pa/Cardinal O'Hara) posted 27 assists in the match and added four kills, four digs and a team-high two aces.

Erin Walsh (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) had 12 digs tonight for LHU.

Kaleigh Hudak (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom High) and Alex Brehony (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) each chipped in offensively with four kills.

The Lady Eagles return to action Friday, October 19, when they travel to Kutztown University for a PSAC East match.  LHU returns home Saturday, October 20 when they celebrate homecoming weekend by hosting Virginia Union and Concord University at Thomas Fieldhouse.  LHU will play Virginia Union at 11 a.m. and Concord at 3 p.m.
