Match Notes: Bald Eagles close out regular season with pair of EWL duals

Haven hosts Bloomsburg on Friday before heading to Clarion on Sunday

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team is set to close out the 2011-12 regular season this weekend with a pair of Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) matches.

Setting the stage:
Lock Haven closes out the home portion of its 2011-12 season on Friday with local-rival Bloomsburg (7 p.m.). The Bald Eagles are 4-9 overall and 1-3 in league action.

Bloomsburg is coming off a loss to No. 19 Binghamton and the Huskies are 15-7 overall and 2-3 in EWL action.

Lock Haven will close out the regular season with a 2 p.m. dual at Clarion on Sunday (Feb. 19).

Clarion has won three straight and is 5-6 overall (2-3 EWL). The Golden Eagles host No. 13 Kent State on Friday.

At 5 p.m. on Friday, several Lock Haven grapplers will also scrimmage with Penn College.

The series:
Despite Bloomsburg's recent success, Lock Haven controls the all-time series with the Huskies, 41-26. Bloom as won seven straight however and LHU will be looking for its first win Friday since 2004 (20-16).

Last year, Bloomsburg won 25-12. Lock Haven won four bouts in the loss to Bloom, including three straight at 133-141-149 from current Bald Eagles John Trumbetti, Matt Bonson and Owen Wilkinson.

LHU leads the all-time series with Clarion 28-19-2 and the Bald Eagles have won eight of the last 10 bouts including last year's 24-19 win. Last year, LHU won six bouts to take down the visiting Golden Eagles.

Last Friday, Lock Haven fell 28-13 to Bucknell in non-conference action.

The Bald Eagles picked up three wins on the night including a major decision from John Trumbetti (Montvale, N.J./St. Joseph Regional) at 133.

Fred Garcia (184) and Harry Turner (285) were both winners for LHU.

Haven's four seniors:
The Bloomsburg match marks the final home match for four Bald Eagle seniors including John Tumbetti, Matt Bonson, Owen Wilkinson and Seth Creasy.

Together the four have combined for 235 wins.

Bonson nationally ranked:
Matt Bonson was ranked No. 33 at 141 in this week's Gregg Henry's/WrestlingReport D1 rankings. Bonson is 14-7 and returns to the lineup this week.

Up next:
Following Sunday's match with Clarion, Lock Haven will return to action on Sunday, March 4 at the 2012 Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Championships (9 a.m.).

The 2012 NCAA Championships are set for March 15 – 17 in St. Louis at the Scottrade Center.
