HAMPTON, Va. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (1-2) split two games today on day two of the Builder Invitational. The Bald Eagles defeated Briarcliffe (0-2) 18-10 in game one, but fell to Bloomsburg (2-1) 9-6 in game two.
The Bald Eagles exploded for 18 runs on 12 hits in their 18-10 win over Briarcliffe.
Trailing 4-1 in the third, the Bald Eagles erupted for six runs in the bottom of the third and seven runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Freshman
Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate University) hit his first career homerun, a three run shot in the bottom of the fourth.
Botts had four RBIs in the game.
Kevin Cressman (Huntingdon, Pa./Mansfield University) was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. He drew three walks and scored three runs
Jose Diaz (Oak Ridge, N.J./Gloucester County College) led The Haven with three hits for the game.
Diaz was 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and a stolen base.
Freshman
Ryan Boyer (Tremont, Pa./Pine Grove) got the start on the mound for The Haven.
Boyer threw five innings of work, giving up just four earned runs and struck out three on his way to his first career win.
Nick Cummings (Akron, N.Y./Akron) struck out four batters in four solid innings of relief.
The Bald Eagles fell in game two to Bloomsburg 9-6
Lock Haven scored six runs on 12 hits in game two.
Collin Mills (Union Bridge, M.d./Francis Scott Key) got the nod on the mound and allowed just three earned runs in six strong innings. He struck out six in the no-decision.
Ryan Watkins (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) led the Bald Eagles at the plate with three hits.
Watkins was 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored.
Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) went 2-for-3 with a RBI double.
Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) and
Jose Diaz also had two hits for LHU.
Cory Dorman (Mifflinburg, Pa./Alleghany College of Maryland) was 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Lock Haven continues action tomorrow at the Builder Invitational when they take on host Apprentice School. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
