Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (1-1-1, 0-1 PSAC) dropped its home-opener 2-1 today to No. 14 Gannon University (3-0, 1-0 PSAC).
Just a little over 10 minutes after Lock Haven finally tied the match at 1-1; Gannon scored the eventual game-winning goal late in the second half.
Gannon led 1-0 at halftime after Alex Perri scored just 2:44 into the match. Despite Gannon's early goal, much of the game was played in the middle of the field and that trend continued into the second half.
With less than 30 minutes to play in the match, the pace picked up in the early-season battle between the two perennial PSAC rivals and two of the region's top-ranked teams.
Lock Haven really started to put the pressure on in the final half hour and hit the post three times before
Asher Klahold (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) finally beat Gannon's keeper in the 65th minute.
Klahold knocked a loose ball near post for his first career goal. The goal knotted the score at 1-1.
Just over 10 minutes later, Perri's pass split The Haven defense and Adam Sharbaugh finished, making it 2-1 in favor of Gannon.
LHU goalie
Chris Frederick Woodsboro, Pa./Walkersville) made five saves while
David Qaisi (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) turned in a solid all-around effort for the Bald Eagles.
The Bald Eagles started three freshmen today, including
Jacob Oldaker (Brownstown, Pa./Conestoga Valley), who created a number of good scoring chances for LHU.
Lock Haven returns to action on Saturday, September 8 at Saint Thomas Aquinas (2:30 p.m.).
