Box Score 2 LEESBURG, Fla. – The Lock Haven University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader today to Ashland University on the first day of LHU's annual spring break trip to Florida.
Game one between Lock Haven (1-7) and Ashland (10-4) required extra innings, with Ashland claiming the win 5-4 (8 inn.). AU won game two 9-1.
The Bald Eagles trailed 1-0 after three innings of play, but The Haven battled back and took the lead 4-3 after five innings. Ashland knotted the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning and after a scoreless seventh, the teams headed to extra innings.
Ashland won the game on a walk off single in the eighth inning.
The Bald Eagles were led by senior
Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley), who went 3-for-5 with an RBI in the game.
Anthony Kyne (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Kyne was also big defensively, as he made a number of key defensive plays on the afternoon.
Matt Hendrixson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and
Jose Diaz (Oak Ridge, N.J./Gloucester County College) each drove in one RBI for The Haven.
Nick Cummings (Akron, N.Y./Akron) started on the mound for LHU. Cummings struck out five batters in 4.1 innings of work. He allowed three earned runs.
Aaron Lidgett (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) and
Alec Jacob (Newtown, Pa./Pennsbury) combined for 3.1 innings of solid relief.
The Bald Eagles fell game two today, 9-1.
Ashland got off to a quick start, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back.
Haven starting pitcher
Joe Nestor (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) struck out two hitters in 3.1 innings. He allowed six runs.
Garrett Shnyder (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery) and
Kyle Schubert (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) combined for 3.1 innings of work in relief.
Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) and
Jeff Ross (Danville, Pa./Danville) tallied the only two hits in the game for LHU.
The Bald Eagles are right back in action tomorrow (March 17) when LHU takes on Minnestoa Duluth in two seven-inning games. First pitch of game one is set for 2 p.m.
