Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 6 Lock Haven University lacrosse team claimed its second straight PSAC regular season crown with a thrilling 10-9 win over No. 13 IUP in a fierce PSAC battle that featured a pair of top-15 teams.
Lock Haven (13-1, 10-0 PSAC) won its 10th straight game and remained a perfect 10-0 in conference play with the hard-fought win over visiting IUP (11-2, 8-1 PSAC). It marked the just the second loss of the year for the Crimson Hawks.
With Sunday's (April 21) win over West Chester and today's win over IUP, Lock Haven earns the top-seed for next week's PSAC Tournament even with one regular season game remaining.
Today's win was the product of a total-team effort.
Offensively,
Jessica Pandolf (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and
Chelsea Borrino (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) led the way.
Pandolf scored three goals, while Borrino recorded a four point match on two goals and two assists.
Kelly Hamilton (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) also added a pair of goals.
A big difference in today's game was Lock Haven's tremendous midfield play.
LHU's remarkable 10 caused turnovers came from just four different players, including midfielder
Jenna Dingler (Washington Township, N.J./Washington Township), who was all over the field for Lock Haven.
Dingler had a goal, assist, three caused turnovers and a game-high six ground balls.
Goalie
Chrissy Baffuto (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central), the reigning PSAC Player of the Week was once again tough between the pipes. She made eight saves on the way to her 13th win.
Less than one minute into the match, IUP took a 1-0 lead on a Sarah Ward strike, but LHU was quick to respond as Hamilton scored her first of two tallies on the day.
The back-and-forth early scoring proved to be theme throughout the game. The two teams were knotted at 7-7 after the opening 30 minutes and combined for five second-half goals as they were dead even throughout.
The Lady Eagles close out the 2013 regular season at home on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. when they host Mercyhurst on Senior Day.
