Long ball powers Bald Eagles past Mansfield, 11-2

Haven closes out regular season this weekend against Clarion

Box Score MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (15-25) hit three home runs today as the Bald Eagles downed Mansfield (21-25), 11-2 on the road in a non-conference matchup at Mansfield's Shaute Field.

The Bald Eagles 11 runs came off of 15 hits in the single, nine-inning game.

Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) got things going for The Haven in the top of the third inning when he drove a double into the left-centerfield gap that scored Matt Hendrixson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley), giving the Bald Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate) kept the scoring going for LHU in the fourth when he smacked his fifth home run of the season to leftfield, a solo shot that gave The Haven a 2-0 lead.

Senior Jose Diaz (Oak Ridge, N.J./Gloucester County College) kept the fourth inning rally going when he doubled off the left field wall that drove in Anthony Kyne (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) all the way from first base.

Lock Haven scored three runs in the fifth, capped off by Botts' second home run of the game.  Botts' fifth inning bomb was a two-run shot that gave LHU a 6-0 lead.

Leading 7-1 in the eighth, the Bald Eagles extended their lead to 10-1 when Tyler Yesensky (Endwell, N.Y./Old Dominion Univ.) hit a three-run shot to left field.  The homer was Yesensky's second of the season.

The Bald Eagles tacked on one run in the ninth to complete the 11-2 win.

Botts finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Hartman was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Kyne was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Garrett Shnyder (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery) got off to a great start on the mound.  Shnyder did not allow a hit until the fourth inning on his way to third win of the season (3-4).

Shnyder allowed one run on four hits in six-plus innings of work.  He struck out two Mounties.

The Bald Eagles close out the regular season this weekend when LHU takes on Clarion in its final PSAC West series of the season.  Lock Haven will host Clarion on Friday (May 3) and The Haven will travel to Clarion on Saturday (May 4).  First pitch from Foundation Field on Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m.

- Freshman Garrett Shnyder made his 13th appearance of the season today.  Shnyder is now one appearance away from moving into the top-10 all-time at LHU for the most appearances in a single season.
