Men’s Soccer opens season with 4-2 victory

Newcomer Troy Amspacher nets pair of goals as LHU beats Goldey-Beacom in 2013 season-opener

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team scored just 24 seconds into the 2013 season and the Bald Eagles cruised to an opening night victory of Goldey-Beacom, 4-2.  
 
Leading the way for Lock Haven (1-0) was newcomer Troy Amspacher (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley), who scored a pair of goals in his Bald Eagle debut.
 
LHU took immediate control of the match from the opening whistle and just 24 seconds in, it was 1-0 Haven. LHU led Goldey-Beacom (0-3) 2-1 at halftime.
 
After the game's opening whistle, Trent Burris (McAlisterville, Pa./East Juniata) quickly worked the ball down the right side near the end line, where he slotted it toward the goal mouth, beating both the defender and goalie. Amspacher was in the right spot and knocked the ball near post into an open goal despite a frenzy of crashing defenders.
 
Jacob Oldaker (Elliottsburg, Pa./West Perry) made it 2-0 after one-timing a beautiful crossing pass from Asher Klahold (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), who curved the ball in the from the left side, leaving Oldaker wide open.
 
With just 50 seconds left in the first half, Goldey-Beacom found the back of net off a corner kick.
 
Amspacher was at it again in the 62nd minute when he collected a loose ball and fired it far post from 15 yards out to put LHU up 3-1.
 
The Lighting made it 3-2 in the 71st minute off a LHU own-goal, but Klahold sealed it with a blast from 12 yards out that went through the goalie's legs in the 79th minute of play.
 
Brad Sumski (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) needed to make just one save on the way to the win.
 
Zachary Muscato (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) led a tremendous defensive effort from LHU.
 
Lock Haven heads to PSAC-newcomer Pitt-Johnstown on Friday, September 13 for a 3 p.m. match.
