DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (8-5, 3-1 A-10) beat Davidson (2-11, 1-3 A-10), 2-1 today in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup.

The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Lady Eagles.

LHU netted the first goal of the game in the 25
th minute when The Haven's leading scorer,
Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School) gained possession of the ball in the circle, dribbled right and flicked the ball past the Davidson goalie to give LHU the, 1-0 lead.

The goal was Downes' team-high sixth of the year.

The score remained, 1-0 at the halftime break.

The Lady Eagles dominated most of the second half, as LHU drew 11 penalty corners in the period.

The Haven took advantage of one of those penalty corners in the 52
nd minute when
Steph Ebersole (Elizabethtown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored her first goal of the year to put LHU ahead, 2-0.

Davidson cut Lock Haven's lead to, 2-1 in the 62
nd minute off of a goal by Melissa Funsten, but the LHU defense stood tall to preserve the win.

Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land) made nine saves in net for LHU.

The Haven out-shot Davidson, 16-13 on the day.

Lock Haven returns to action next Friday (October 17), when the Lady Eagles host Saint Joseph's University in an important A-10 Conference game. Friday's game at Charlotte E. Smith Field is set for 3 p.m.
