LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the second straight game, the Lady Eagles got goals from
Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School) and
Steph Ebersole (Elizabethtown, Pa./Lowe Dauphin), and the Lock Haven University field hockey team blanked visiting Saint Joseph's, 2-0.
It marked the third shutout of the season for Lock Haven (9-5, 4-1 A-10), who also recorded its second straight win. LHU outshot Saint Joseph's (7-8, 2-4 A-10) 8-4 on the way to the victory.
Downes put LHU up 1-0 in the fourth minute when she made a long run into the circle and blasted a shot far post past the goalie. Lock Haven led 1-0 at halftime on Downes' seventh tally of the year.
Ebersole's second goal in as many games was a huge one for Lock Haven. It came in the 59
th minute and gave LHU some insurance late in the important conference match.
Jenna Felice (Endicott, N.Y./Maine Endwell) led The Haven's defensive charge. Her late-game defensive save preserved the shutout for Lock Haven.
