Lock Haven dominates Lehigh, records 4th shutout of season, 4-0

Lock Haven wins 3rd straight, records 2nd straight shutout in 4-0 non-conference win over Lehigh

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (10-5) dominated Lehigh University (4-11) on the way to a 4-0 victory today at Charlotte Smith Field in non-conference action.

The win was Lock Haven's third straight and the shutout was the second straight for LHU. It was The Haven's fourth shutout of the season.

LHU jumped on Lehigh early, scoring quick and the defense was sensational - while not allowing a single shot in the first half.

For the game, LHU outshot Lehigh 19-3 and the Lady Eagles' constant offensive pressure led to 13 Haven penalty corner attempts.

Megan Wenrich (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) led the way with a pair of goals, while Rachel Valentine (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) and Steph Ebersole (Elizabethtown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) added one goal.

Valentine and Taylor Kennedy (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Township) were both credited with assists in the win.

Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land) was called upon to make two saves in the win.

Ebersole, Jenna Felice (Endicott, N.Y./Maine Endwell), Stephanie Whiteman (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anstey East) and Rebekah Hershey (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton)  led the Lady Eagles' shutdown-defense.

Lock Haven took the 1-0 lead just 23 second into the match after George quickly collected the ball and darted through the Lehigh defense toward the touchline – where she slotted a perfect crossing pass to the back door and Valentine tucked it home into the open net.

LHU made it 2-0 in the 13th minute when Wenrich scored her fourth of the season after knocking home a rebound.

Just over four minutes later, Ebersole scored for the third straight game, making it 3-0 in the 17th minute of play. The third goal of the game for Lock Haven chased freshman goalie Katie Morris, who was making her first career start.

Wenrich was at it again in the second half, scoring her second of the game and fifth of the season. The 58th minute tally made it 4-0 in favor of the hosts as the Lady Eagles cruised to victory.

The Lady Eagles hit the road next weekend for a pair of important Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) contests. On Friday, October 24, LHU takes on Richmond at 4 p.m., before traveling to VCU for a Sunday (October 26, noon) clash.
