Defense powers Bald Eagles to Homecoming victory

Lock Haven wins second straight game, drops Millersville, 17-10 on Homecoming

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bald Eagles defense played another sensational 60 minutes of football, the offense responded with the game on the line and the Lock Haven University football team dropped Millersville University 17-10 in a Homecoming thriller, much to the delight of a crowd of 3,104 strong.

It was the second straight win for Lock Haven (2-6, 2-5 PSAC), marking the first time the Bald Eagles have won back-to-back games since the 2003 season.

Leading the way today was Lock Haven's defense, which recorded three fumble recoveries, six sacks and 14 tackles-for-loss. Daniel Strawbridge (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) led LHU with seven tackles. Janosch Beauchamp (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) added six solo stops and a sack. A total of seven different Bald Eagles recorded four tackles apiece.

Late in the fourth quarter – just 2:19 after Millersville tied the game at 10-10, Beau Swales (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) dashed through the Marauder defense - 21 yards for his second touchdown of the season.

Swales' TD capped a six-play, 71-yard drive that couldn't have come at a better time.

Swales went over 100 yards rushing for the second consecutive week and finished with a career-high 118 yards on 26 carries.

Haven quarterback Caleb Walton (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) was 8-for-18 and passed for 108 yards. He rushed for 46 and a score.

The Bald Eagles led Millersville (0-8, 0-6) 10-3 at halftime.

A 20-yard field goal from Alex Boumerhi (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) with 9:01 left in the opening quarter opened the game's scoring and put LHU up 3-0.

The Bald Eagles added to their lead late in the first quarter when Walton darted into the end zone, capping a sensational 10-play, 94-yard drive (4:55). Boumerhi's kick was good and LHU led 10-0 with 2:38 left in the first quarter.

Millersville finally got on the board with just 18 seconds left in the first half after Evan Stahl's 20-yard field goal capped an 11-play, 89-yard drive.

Millersville's late first-half field goal snapped a Lock Haven shutout streak that dated back to the third quarter, two weeks ago vs. Shippensburg. In all, the Bald Eagle defense held opponents without a point for the previous 105 minutes, and 42 seconds.

After a scoreless third quarter, MU tied the game in the fourth.

Millersville's David Coates capped 75-yard drive with a three-yard TD run with 7:49 to play in the game. Coates' TD tied the game at 10-10.

The Bald Eagles offense responded however – right when they needed it the most, engineering a touchdown drive to put LHU up for good. Swales' TD-run with 5:30 left put the game away for Lock Haven.

Lock Haven entered today's game on a high note as the Bald Eagles were coming off their first win of the 2014 season last Saturday at Cheyney. LHU dominated the Wolves 28-0 for The Haven's first shutout in 12 years.
