Football downed at Kutztown

Bald Eagles win streak snapped at Kutztown, 19-0

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team's (2-7, 2-6 PSAC East) bid for a third straight win came up short at Kutztown University (5-4, 5-3 PSAC East) today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action, as LHU lost 19-0.

Kutztown struck quickly, scoring 14 first-quarter points on the way to the win.

The Bald Eagles defense once again kept them in the game. Mike Williams (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) George Christas (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) and Daniel Strawbridge (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) each recorded eight tackles.

Christas also had an interception, two pass breakups and two tackles-for-a-loss. Christas' interception marked Lock Haven's ninth of the season. It was LHU's third straight game where the Bald Eagles forced at least one turnover and Lock Haven has a forced-turnover in all, but one game this season (Week 6 vs. Shippensburg).

Quarterback Caleb Walton (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) was 14-for-33 for 123 yards.

The 123 passing yards give him 1,737 on the year, as he looks to become the first Bald Eagle to pass for over 2,000 yards in a season since 1995. Lock Haven has only seen a player surpass the 2,000-yard passing mark in a single season five times previously.

For his career, Walton, a redshirt-sophomore has 2,893 passing yards, already the ninth most in school history.

Seven different players caught a pass today for Lock Haven, including Jeremy Cornelius (Harrisburg, Pa./Temple Univ.), who has four catches.

The Bald Eagles entered today's game riding a two-game winning streak, their first two-game regular season winning streak since 2003. Lock Haven beat Millersville, 17-10 last Saturday at home and shutout Cheyney two weeks ago, 28-0. The shutout over Cheyney was LHU's first shutout in 12 years.

The Bald Eagles return home next weekend (Saturday, November 8) for their 2014 home finale, as Lock Haven hosts No. 6 Bloomsburg at 1 p.m.
