LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (4-4-1) fell to New York Institute of Technology (7-1-1), 3-1 today in a non-conference matchup at a chilly Hubert Jack Stadium.
Today's game featured a battle for possession in the first half, as both defenses held its opponent silent through 45 minutes of play.
LHU struck first after the halftime break.
Jacob Oldaker (Elliotsburg, Pa./West Perry) clipped a cross in the 56th minute off of NYIT's Harvey Houpe and into the net to give The Haven a, 1-0 lead.
NYIT answered 11 minutes later when Alex Barbosa scored off of a cross from Javier Gallardo to even the game at, 1-1 in the 67th minute.
Just three minutes later, Barbosa struck again, as Gallardo again found the Bears' leading scorer in the box to give NYIT the lead, 2-1.
NYIT pulled ahead, 3-1 when Gallardo collected his third assist of the day, this time finding John Camponeschi on a cross, who back tapped the ball past the LHU defense.
Keepers
Jonathan Howitt (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post East) and Thomas McClain (Greentown, Pa./Wallenpaupak) each made two saves for LHU.
Lock Haven returns to action on Wednesday, October 8, when the Bald Eagles host West Virginia Wesleyan in a non-conference match. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
