LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team got a sensational individual effort from goalkeeper
Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land) and goal from
Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School), but it wasn't enough as Saint Francis edged the Lady Eagles 2-1 in a double-overtime thriller.

It marked the final Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) game of the season for both Lock Haven (12-6, 6-2 A-10) and Saint Francis (14-2, 6-2 A-10), and will play a role in the final conference tournament seedings – to be announced/determined.

Downes scored her ninth goal of the season and put Lock Haven up 1-0, 32 minutes into the match after breaking through the Red Flash defense. Her shot beat the keeper from a tough angle and deflected off a defender.

Late in the first half, Selena Adamshick tied the match at 1-1.

Following an intense second half and exciting first overtime period that saw no goals for either squad, SFU found the game-winner in the 91
st minute when Autumn Pellman tucked one home.

White's play for Lock Haven in the cage, kept the Lady Eagles in the match throughout. She finished with 11 saves, including several sensational stops in the first overtime period.

Following today's game, the Lady Eagles took a moment to honor their three seniors, including White, Downes and
Taylor Kennedy (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Township).

Lock Haven will close out the 2014 regular season tomorrow (Sunday, November 2) at local-rival Bucknell (1 p.m.).
