SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team opened the 2014-15 season with an, 81-63 loss to host Shepherd University at the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge hosted by the Rams.
The Bald Eagles got off to a slow start offensively and trailed, 47-23 at halftime.
Bootsie Walker (Chester, Pa./Chester) led LHU with nine points and four rebounds in the first half.
The Bald Eagles battled back in the second half and cut the Rams' lead to 13, 68-55 with 4:55 to play.
The first half deficit was too much to overcome, however as LHU was unable to complete the comeback.
Walker finished with 13 points and six rebounds to pace the LHU scoring effort.
Theo West (Philadelphia/Kensington) was solid in the post for The Haven. West made his first career start and tied a career-high with 12 points. He added a team-high seven rebounds.
Dave Garcia (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mt. East) matched West with 12 points of his own.
Brahieme Jackson (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt) played well off the bench, scoring 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting and he grabbed six rebounds.
Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) added nine points and four rebounds for LHU.
Morgan McDonald led Shepherd with 21 points and 15 rebounds.
The Bald Eagles close out play at the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge tomorrow (Saturday, November 15) when LHU takes on Wheeling Jesuit University. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
