SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team opened the 2014-15 season with a, 69-60 loss against Bowie State University today at the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic hosted by Shippensburg University.
Rachael McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J./California (Pa.) Univ.) had a breakout game for LHU, scoring a career-high 14 points and pulling down seven rebounds for The Haven.
A competitive first half saw eight ties and eight different lead changes, resulting in an even, 31-31 score after 20 minutes of play.
Emily Daugherty (Laughlintown, Pa./Ligonier Valley) led the way for the Lady Eagles with 11 points in the opening period.
The second half mirrored the first, as the two teams battled back-and-forth with neither able to gain a substantial advantage.
Bowie State rallied late, however. With the game tied, 55-55 with 2:59 to play, the Bulldogs went on a, 14-5 run to secure the win.
Eleven of McDaniel's 14 points and six of her seven rebounds came in the second half. She shot 4-for-8 from three.
Daugherty finished with 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) netted 10 points on the afternoon.
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) had a monster day on the glass for LHU. Moyer pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, including six offensive. She added seven points.
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) chipped in with nine points off the bench.
Donia Naylor scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Bowie State.
The Lady Eagles close out play at the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 15) when LHU takes on Johnson C. Smith University at 1 p.m.
