Women’s Basketball falls to Johnson C. Smith in overtime thriller

McDaniel scores career-high 21 points; LHU hosts East Stroudsburg Wednesday

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team fell, 66-61 to Johnson C. Smith in an overtime thriller today at the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic hosted by Shippensburg University.
 
Rachael McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J./California (Pa.) Univ.), who set a career-high with 14 points yesterday, was at it again for LHU.
 
McDaniel scored 21 points, another career-best on a very efficient 7-of-14 shooting from the field.  McDaniel knocked down all three of LHU's three-pointers in the game.
 
Lock Haven dominated most of the first half and The Haven got out to a quick, 11-0 lead.  The Lady Eagles held a, 35-26 halftime lead.
 
Johnson C. Smith opened the second half on a, 12-3 to even the score at, 38-38 with 14:58 to play.
 
The two teams battled for the rest of regulation.  Lock Haven held a, 57-55 lead with 10 seconds to play, but Anika Jones knotted the game up for JCSU with a layup.  The Lady Eagles were unable to get a shot at the end of regulation, sending the game to overtime.
 
The Lady Eagles again held a two-point lead, 61-59 with 2:09 to play in the extra period, but Johnson C. Smith rose to the occasion.  The Golden Bulls closed the game on a, 7-0 run to secure the win.
 
McDaniel was the only Lady Eagle to score in double figures on the afternoon.  She averaged 17.5 points per game in LHU's two games this weekend.
 
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) scored eight points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Emily Daugherty (Laughlintown, Pa./Ligonier Valley) and Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) each scored eight points for the Lady Eagles.
 
Anika Jones and Ashley Porter each scored 18 points to lead Johnson C. Smith.
 
The Lady Eagles return to action on Wednesday (Nov. 19) when LHU hosts East Stroudsburg in its 2014-15 home and conference opener.  Tipoff from Thomas Fieldhouse is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
