JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (2-5, 2-2 PSAC) picked up a huge road win tonight over Pitt-Johnstown (5-4, 2-3 PSAC), 76-73 in a PSAC crossover matchup.
The Bald Eagles were led by the duo of
Theo West (Philadelphia/Kensington) and
Ra'eese Hunt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist), who both had career-high scoring nights.
Lock Haven came out firing on all cylinders and jumped out to an, 11-2 lead, West scored the first nine points for LHU.
The Mountain Cats closed the opening half on an, 18-8 run and UPJ led at the break, 37-36
West and Hunt were huge for the Bald Eagles in the opening period, as the duo combined for 19 points.
Lock Haven and Pitt-Johnstown battled back-and-forth in the second half. The game was tied, 67-67 at the final media timeout with 2:04 to play, before the Bald Eagles took control.
LHU went on a, 6-0 run over the next 58 seconds to lead, 73-67 with 1:06 to play.
A UPJ three-pointer by A.J. Leahey cut the LHU lead in half, 73-70 and after a Lock Haven miss, the Bald Eagles elected to foul to prevent a potential game tying three.
Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti) and
Julian Bond (Philadelphia/Plymouth Whitemarsh) sealed The Haven win at the free throw line in the final seconds.
West led LHU with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and he went 4-of-5 from the free throw stripe.
Hunt netted 12 points in just 11 minutes and shot 5-of-6 from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from the line.
Hepburn filled the stat sheet with 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
Bootsie Walker (Chester, Pa./Chester) added eight points, a team-high 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals in the win.
The Bald Eagles shot 54.0% from the field, their best percentage in any game so far this season.
The Bald Eagles are right back in action tomorrow when The Haven takes on IUP. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
