MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team fell to Mansfield today, 90-78 on the road in a PSAC matchup.
Lock Haven (1-5, 1-2 PSAC) trailed by 12 points, 73-61 with 3:58 to play in the game, but The Haven mounted a late run fueled by its full-court press.
LHU cut Mansfield's (4-3, 2-2 PSAC) lead to just three, 81-78 with 1:23 to play, but the Bald Eagles comeback bid fell short and Mansfield closed the game on a, 9-0 run.
Lock Haven held a, 38-37 halftime lead thanks to a balanced scoring effort. Five different Bald Eagles scored at least five points in the opening period, led by
Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley), who netted eight points.
Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti) led LHU with 20 points and six assists on the afternoon.
Walters finished with 14 points and six rebounds.
Bootsie Walker (Chester, Pa./Chester) tallied 10 points and pulled down six rebounds of his own.
Dave Garcia (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mt. East) added eight points off the bench, including a team-high two three-pointers.
Freshman Andreas Katopodis had a huge game for Mansfield, as he connected on six three-pointers in the game and finished with a career-high 24 points.
Lock Haven returns to action Tuesday, December 16 when the Bald Eagles travel to Pitt Johnstown. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
