Baseball falls to Mansfield in final game in Florida

Bald Eagles fall to Mounties, 15-9; Haven to open PSAC East play this weekend

Box Score CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (8-5) fell to local Pennsylvania rival Mansfield University (10-3), 15-9 today on the final day of The Haven's spring break trip to Clearwater, Florida.

The Bald Eagles got the offense rolling from the first pitch of the game.

Gordon Barr (Johnstown, Pa./Westmoreland County C.C.) smoked the very first pitch of the game to the left-centerfield gap for a double.  After a groundout and two walks, Anthony Kyne (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) singled through the left side of the infield that plated two runs to put LHU up, 2-0.

Later in the inning, Ethan Moore (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) plated two more Haven runs with a single up the middle that gave LHU an early, 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning.

Mansfield answered with three quick runs in the bottom of the first and the Mounties added six more in the second to take a, 9-4 lead.

Trailing, 10-4 in the fifth, LHU got back into the game.  The Bald Eagles loaded the bases with no outs and scored two runs off of a Mansfield error and a groundout to cut the lead to, 10-6.

Trailing, 12-6 in the seventh, LHU again climbed back into the game.  The Bald Eagles scored three runs in the inning off of a sac fly, a wild pitch and an error to get within three, 12-9.

Mansfield answered with three more runs in the eighth, however to put the game out of reach.

Kyne went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Bald Eagles at the plate.

Moore went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

LHU finished its trip to Clearwater with a 2-3 record. 

Lock Haven is right back in action this weekend, when the Bald Eagles open up PSAC East Conference play against Bloomsburg University.  LHU will travel to Bloom for two, seven inning games on Saturday (March 22) and The Haven will host Bloomsburg at Foundation Field on Sunday (March 23) for the 2014 home opener.

Lock Haven went 2-3 on its spring break trip to Clearwater, Florida…The Bald Eagles defeated Ohio Valley in LHU's first game of the trip, 12-1…After losing to Hillsdale Saturday afternoon, the Bald Eagles bounced back to defeat Minnesota-Crookston on Sunday, 12-5…LHU's game against PSAC East rival West Chester was rained out on Monday…The Haven played right with No. 9 Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, but fell in the late innings, 7-4…The Bald Eagles closed out the trip with a loss to Mansfield…Austin Botts led LHU at the plate all trip.  He hit .500 (10-for-20) with four doubles, a homerun and seven RBIs.
