Baseball drops two to Shippensburg to close out 2014 season

Haven rally falls short in game 2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team closed out its 2014 season today by dropping both games of a doubleheader to Shippensburg.

Lock Haven (13-28, 5-23 PSAC East) fell in game one to Shippensburg (29-17, 14-14 PSAC East), 2-0 and The Haven dropped game two, 6-5.

Lock Haven honored its five seniors, Anthony Kyne (Newtown, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) Tyler Yesensky (Endwell, N.Y./Old Dominion Univ.), Josh Jones (Neelyton, Pa./Southern Huntingdon), Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) and Brandon Renoll (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) in between games today.
 
Game 1 Recap:

Game one featured a pitcher's dual between Lock Haven's Maddison Neddo (Earlville, Md./Coppin State Univ.) and Shippensburg's Mark Curtis.

Curtis allowed just three hits in six innings of work.  He struck out five.

Neddo was solid in the loss. He scattered seven hits in seven innings of work and struck out three.

The Red Raiders scored both of their runs in the fifth inning. After a bunt single and a sacrifice bunt, SHIP hit back-to-back doubles to break the scoreless tie and take the lead, 2-0.

The Bald Eagles put runners on first and third in the seventh inning, but were unable to even the game with go-ahead run at the plate.

Zuback, Yesensky and Tyson Petersheim (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) each had one hit for The Haven.

Game 2 Recap:

The Bald Eagles mounted a late rally in game two, but came up just short, 6-5.

Joe Nestor (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) battled on the mound all game, working out of a number of jams.  He stranded six runners on base in 4.2 innings.

LHU trailed, 1-0 in the fifth when Cal Hogan and Pat Kregeloh hit back-to-back homeruns to lead off the inning for SHIP that made it a, 3-0 game.  Two batters later, Jimmy Spanos connected for another SHIP homer to make it a, 4-0 game.

The Haven battled back in the sixth.  LHU loaded the bases with nobody out and plated three runs in the inning to cut the Red Raider lead to, 4-3.

After Shippensburg scored two in the top of the seventh, Ryan Henritzy (Newtown Square, Pa./Council Rock North) came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh and smashed a two-run homerun to left field to bring the Bald Eagles within one again, 6-5.

Lock Haven had the tying run on second and the winning run on third, but were unable to even the score.

Henritzy went 2-for-3 with a homerun and a double and two RBIs.

Zuback and Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate Univ.) each were 2-for-4 in the game.
