*updated, 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 7 Lock Haven University lacrosse team capped off the regular season today with an impressive 25-6 win as the Lady Eagles downed visiting Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
Today's win helped Lock Haven (15-2, 11-1 PSAC) claim the PSAC regular season title, the Lady Eagles third straight PSAC regular season crown.
The Lady Eagles closed the season on a 13 game-win streak after starting the season 2-2.
When SRU (6-11, 3-9 PSAC) finally scored with 16:23 left in the first half, it stopped a streak of 77 minutes and 41 seconds that Lock Haven went without giving up a goal - dating back to the Shippensburg game, three games ago.
Prior to today's game, Lock Haven took time to honors its two seniors and co-captains –
Chelsea Borrino (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) and
Lindsay Walbrandt (Telford, Pa./Souderton) for their dedication and contributions to the Lock Haven lacrosse program.
Leading the way today was
Jessica Pandolf (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) who turned in a sensational individual effort, netting six goals and three assists for nine points on the day.
Kelly Hamilton (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) finished with five goals in the win and controlled the dominating Haven attack.
Seniors Walbrandt and Borrino left their mark in the score sheet with a combined seven goals. Borrino dished out a game-high six assists.
Junior midfielder
Rachel Ward (Indianapolis/Bishop Chatard) netted a hat trick and grabbed three draw controls on the day.
Melinda Wojt (Telford, Pa./Souderton) delivered a strong defensive effort with three groundballs and two caused turnovers for the Haven.
At the sound of the first whistle, the Lady Eagles soared into action netting 11 straight goals in just over ten minutes of action. With twenty minutes to play in the opening half, the Rock finally found the scoreboard with back-to-back goals.
Hamilton and Ward netted two goals at the start of the second half and soared to a, 15-6 Haven victory.
A huge key in today's win was LHU's dominance on draw controls. The Lady Eagles combined for 27 draw controls. Pandolf and Hamilton got eight draw controls a piece for The Haven.
Lock Haven returns to action next Friday, May 2 in PSAC semifinal action. Lock Haven will host the PSAC Tournament on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. Much more information will be available early next week on the 2014 PSAC Tournament at
