LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (6-1, 1-0 A-10) outshot Saint Louis (0-7, 0-1 A-10) 16-2 on the way to a 3-1 victory in the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) opener for both teams.

The win was the sixth straight for the Lady Eagles.

Rachel Valentine (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) scored a pair of goals and
Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School) added a late-goal on the way to victory.

Valentine put LHU up 1-0 in the 28
th minute after she deflected home a pass from
Steph Ebersole (Elizabethtown, Pa./Lower Dauphin).

Valentine was at it again in the 52
nd minute when she fired home a rebound to put the Lady Eagles up 2-0.
Â
Just over four minutes later, Downes made it 3-0 after a tremendous individual effort. She cut through the Saint Louis defense and tucked the ball behind Billiken goalkeeper Megan Depew-Brady.

Depew-Brady was tough in goal for Saint Louis and kept the Billikens in the game with four saves.

Saint Louis prevented the shutout with just nine seconds left as Shannon Knoblock knocked one behind LHU netminder
Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land).

White saw limited action thanks to a sensational defensive effort in front of her.

Leading the way on defense was Ebersole and
Jenna Felice (Endicott, N.Y./Maine Endwell).
