MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Head coach
Jennifer Smith watched her team play tough defense and the Lady Eagles got a balanced scoring effort, as the Lock Haven University women's basketball team came away with a huge road win tonight at Millersville University, 49-46.
The win marked the first for Lock Haven (5-10, 4-7 PSAC East) over perennial PSAC East power Millersville (10-7, 7-5 PSAC East) in over 10 years, and it marked the first time Smith defeated her alma mater, while the head coach at The Haven.
The Lady Eagles got a team-high 10 points from
Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) and Lock Haven's defense forced Millersville into 23 turnovers.
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and
Loren Kaiser (Bethlehem, Pa./Pace Univ.) each scored nine points in the win and the Lady Eagles got 18 points off the bench.
Emily Daugherty (Laughlintown, Pa./Ligonier) led Lock Haven on the glass with seven rebounds.
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) added five points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists in another all-around solid night.
Moyer's five points bring her just eight away from becoming the 13
th Lady Eagle to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
Lock Haven trailed Millersville by one at the break, 22-21.
LHU's defense held the Marauders to a 36 percent shooting on the night and LHU scored 18 points off turnovers, which was the biggest difference in the game.
Millersville's 46 points were a season-low.
Tonight marked the third of three straight road games for Lock Haven.
The Lady Eagles return home Saturday (January 17) at 2 p.m. when they host Cheyney.
