LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Senior-guard
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) made history today as the Lady Eagles downed Cheyney, 82-52 on the PSECU Court at Thomas Fieldhouse .
Moyer etched her name in Lock Haven history surpassing 1,000 career points to join an elite group of 13 women's basketball players to reach this mark. Moyer has recorded 1,005 career points, 876 of which have come during her time at LHU.
Lock Haven (6-10, 5-7 PSAC) was a force to be reckoned with today in the dominating, 82-52 win over visiting Cheyney University (3-14, 3-9 PSAC) today.
In the first minute of action, Kirst Bair (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) ignited The Haven offense with two points to lead Cheyney, 2-0.
From that moment LHU took control of the game defensively, forcing 12 turnovers and recording six steals in the first half.
The Lady Eagles went on a 24-2 point run to close the half in the final 9:56 minutes of play.
Lock Haven led Cheyney, 41-19 at the break.
LHU did not lull at the start of the second half as
Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) netted a jumper to give the Haven a, 43-19 lead.
Cheyney tried to rally but the Haven attack proved to be too much as LHU netted 42 points in the second half.
Lock Haven sealed a, 82-52 Haven victory.
LHU delivered an all-around effort with four Lady Eagles netting double figures.
Moyer recorded another double-double this season with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. She dished out four assists in the win.
Senior-guard
Sami Lane netted a game-high 18 points and shot 9-for-11 from the field. Lane recorded three steals in 30 minutes of action.
Syvae McDaniel had a spectacular game as she netted a career-high 14 points and shot 6-for-7 from the free throw line. McDaniel shot 66.7% from the field in 15 minutes of action and added four rebounds.
Veteran
J.J. Hilliard directed the Haven attack with a career-high 11 assists in 25 minutes of play. Hilliard added four rebounds.
The Lady Eagles netted 50 points in the paint and shot 75% from the free throw line. The Haven bench was on fire, adding 32 points in the win.
Taschell Philips led Cheyney with 17 points in 22 minutes of action.
The Lady Eagles are back in action Wednesday (January 21) on the road against Shippensburg (3 p.m.).
