LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (3-9, 3-5 PSAC) battled tough today, but was edged by Slippery Rock University (10-3, 5-2 PSAC), 88-79 in a PSAC crossover matchup at PSECU Court at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Al Blount (Northampton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) was as cool as the other side of the pillow today, scoring a career-high 19 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Blount drilled four three's on the day and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti) matched Blount with 19 points of his own. Hepburn, who entered the day as the PSAC's leading scorer, added four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Bootsie Walker (Chester, Pa./Chester) netted 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists for LHU.
Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) scored 11 points and grabbed six boards on the day.
Lock Haven trailed, 51-45 at the halftime break. LHU shot 50% (15-of-30) from the field in the opening period, but were held to just 29.4% (10-of-34) in the second half.
SRU's Frank Holloway led five Rock players in double-figures with 20 points, 18 of which came in the first half.
The Rock shot a solid 55% (32-of-58) on the day.
Lock Haven returns to action on Wednesday (January 7) when the Bald Eagles travel to Edinboro to play the first of three consecutive road games. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
