LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Megan Wenrich (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and
Tamia Roach (Petit, Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) each scored two goals to lead the Lock Haven University field hockey team (15-3) to a dominating 4-0 win over visiting Appalachian State (4-11) in non-conference action.
The win, Lock Haven's 15
th of the season marks the most since 2010 when LHU finished 15-7. The Bald Eagles haven't won more than 15 games in a single season since going 18-5 in 2009.
Lock Haven jumped on App State quick, scoring three first-half goals and the Bald Eagles outshot the visitors 14-7 for the game.
Wenrich opened the scoring just 4:13 into the match when she knocked home a rebound.
Roach got on the board in the 16
th minute when she deflected home a
Colleen McCabe (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent) shot off a penalty corner attempt.
Wenrich was at it again in the 33
rd minute when tucked home another big rebound at the far post. Wenrich, who scored her first and second tallies of the season today, had The Haven in control, leading 3-0 late in the first half.
Early in the second half, Roach struck again. She put LHU up 4-0 in the 42
nd minute when she redirected a
Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) slap-pass from just inside the circle.
Maddie Wagenfeld (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) split time between the pipes. Wagenfeld got the start and made three fine saves on the way to the victory. Stuppy was called upon to make on one big save in the second half.
Stephanie Whiteman (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anstey East) and
Jenna Felice (Endicott, N.Y./Maine Endwell) led a strong defensive effort that gave the Bald Eagles their seventh shutout of the season.
Lock Haven heads to Saint Louis for a Sunday (October 25) Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) match (2 p.m. EST). The Bald Eagles are 3-3 in A-10 play entering Sunday's match and with two games remaining - both conference games - the playoff push is on for Lock Haven.
