LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (11-2, 2-2 A-10) picked up huge Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) victory this afternoon, dropping first-place Davidson (6-5, 3-1 A-10), 2-1 in a thriller.
Lock Haven scored both goals in the first half, thanks to strikes from
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) and
Colleen McCabe (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent).
After Davidson took the lead just 4:10 in, Lock Haven responded. Roach deflected home a McCabe shot at the far post, tying the match at 1-1 in the 14
th minute.
McCabe put LHU up 2-1 in the 28
th minute when she ripped home a slap-pass at the far post.
Lock Haven controlled the flow of the match for much of the second, but had to hold strong, as Davidson pushed strong over the final minutes of the contest.
Stephanie Whiteman (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anstey East) led a strong defensive effort and goalkeeper
Maddie Wagenfeld's (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) two saves came in the final minutes of play.
LHU returns to action on Friday, October 9 vs. Massachusetts in A-10 action (3 p.m.).
