LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (4-5, 2-4 PSAC) used a strong second-half push which helped the Bald Eagles drop visiting Clarion University (3-6, 3-3 PSAC) 84-76 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) overtime thriller.
Leading the way was
Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), who turned in a monster performance which fueled LHU to the victory. Mealing scored a game-high 18 points and she grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds.
Mealing was one of four Bald Eagle players, who finished in double-figures scoring.
Mackenzie Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./IUP) was 6 of 9 from the field and 12 of 13 from the free-throw stripe, including several key buckets down the stretch on the way to career-high 24 points.
Livingston added seven rebounds.
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) scored 12 points and
Loren Kaiser (Bethlehem, Pa./Pace Univ.) added 10.
LHU trailed 34-27 at halftime, but the Bald Eagles rallied in the second and pushed the pace until the final seconds.
Trailing by two, 70-68, Livingston went to the line with nine seconds left in regulation with a chance to tie the game. She nailed both and a desperation-Clarion jumper at the buzzer fell way short, sending the game into overtime.
The Bald Eagles carried the momentum into overtime and blitzed Clarion 14-6 over the five-minute OT-period.
Mealing scored seven points in overtime and Livingston added six.
After some time off for the end of the academic semester and finals, LHU will return to action on Wednesday, December 16 at 5:30 p.m. when the Bald Eagles host Kutztown in PSAC East action.
