Lady Eagles hold off Kutztown in home thriller, 59-58

J.J. Hilliard nets game-high 18 points; Moyer records double-double in the win

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (8-14, 7-11 PSAC) downed visiting Kutztown University (10-13, 9-10 PSAC), 59-58 on the PSECU Court at Thomas Fieldhouse tonight.
 
J.J. Hilliard powered the Haven attack tonight as she netted a game-high 18 points in 28 minutes of action.
 
The win kept the Lady Eagles' PSAC playoff hopes alive, with four games remaining in the season.   
 
Lock Haven (8-14, 7-11 PSAC) jumped ahead in the first half to lead Kutztown, 28-8 at the break thanks J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock).  Hilliard net 10 points and Lane added eight points in the first 20 minutes of play.
 
The Lady Eagles soared through the first seven minutes of the second half before Kutztown (10-13, 9-10 PSAC) battled back to tie LHU, 35-35 with 12:34 left in the game.
 
From that point on both teams continued to fight for the lead as neither team could gain an advantage.
 
With 34 seconds left in the game, Lane netted a layup to give the Lady Eagles a one-point lead and seal a, 59-58 Haven victory.
 
Senior Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) recorded an all-around performance as she netted 14 points, pulled down 12 boards, and dished out three assists.  Moyer recorded three steals in the win.
 
Lane recorded 16 points and added three steals.
 
Kelsey Watson led the Golden Bears with 15 points in 37 minutes of action.
 
The Lady Eagles netted 38 points in the paint and added 23 bench points. 
 
Today's game marked the second of three straight at home for the Lady Eagles, who host Millersville on Saturday, February 14 at 4 p.m.
