LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (10-15, 9-11 PSAC) has clinched a spot in the PSAC Eastern division standings as LHU downed Cheyney University (4-21, 4-16 PSAC) on the road tonight, 74-57.
With tonight's victory, Lock Haven has earned a spot in the PSAC playoffs for the first time in 24 years.
A balanced attack propelled Lock Haven, as five Lady Eagles netted double-figures, with senior
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) netting a double-double.
The Lady Eagles were firing on all cylinders, holding Cheyney to just 25 points in the first half, and maintaining a 37-25 advantage at the break.
Cheyney responded at the start of the second half shortening LHU's lead to, 40-32 with 15:18 left in the game.
Loren Kaiser (Bethlehem, Pa./Pace Univ.) regained Lock Haven possession, netting a layup in the sixth minute of action, changing momentum in LHU's favor.
The Lady Eagles held the lead for the remainder of the half, sealing a 74-57 Haven victory.
Moyer,
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), and Kaiser recorded a sensational game, leading the Haven charge.
Moyer finished with 13 points and grabbed a team-high 10 boards, while Hilliard netted 13 points and dished out six assists in the win.
Sophomore-guard Kaiser scored a season-high 13 points, shooting 4-for-7 from the field.
Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) and Kirst Bair (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) added to a remarkable senior campaign, recording 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Cheyney was led by three players who net double-figures, including Taschell Phillips who net a game-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Lady Eagles recorded 28 points in the paint and added 21 bench points in the win.
LHU returns to action Saturday, February 20 when the Lady Eagles host Shippensburg in conference action. The game will be Lock Haven's last home matchup of the season. Prior to tip-off (2 p.m.), the lady Eagles will honor it's graduating seniors.
