Lady Eagles split at Saint Leo

Lock Haven falls 2-0 in game one, takes nightcap 1-0 behind strong outing from pitcher Jessie Probst

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Lock Haven University softball team (2-6) split a non-conference doubleheader tonight at Saint Leo (16-7).

Saint Leo took game one, 2-0, but Lock Haven bounced back and took the nightcap, 1-0.

Game 1 Recap: L, 2-0

The host Lions scored once in the bottom of the first and they added a run in the sixth on a solo home run from Angela Kafalas.

Leading the way in game one for LHU was Sarah Schwalm (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott), who each had a hit.

Mouillesseaux got the nod in the circle and scattered five hits over six innings of work. She allowed just one free pass.

Game 2 Recap: W, 1-0

Game two featured a battle between LHU pitcher Jessie Probst (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Saint Leo pitcher Alana Tabel.

Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) broke open the pitcher's duel in the top of the fourth when her two-out single up the middle that drove in Schwalm, putting LHU up 1-0.

It was the only run The Haven needed to earn the split and take home the game-two victory, snapping a six-game losing skid in the process.

Schwalm was fantastic defensively in both games from her shortstop position. Third baseman MaKaylah Holbert (Ulster, Pa./Northern Bradford) also turned in a fine game on the defensive side.

Probst finished with four strikeouts in seven innings. She allowed just three hits on the way to her second win of the season.

The Lady Eagles will have a quick turnaround and hit the field again tomorrow (Wednesday) morning with games against Ohio Dominican (9 a.m.) and Indianapolis (11 a.m.).
