CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lock Haven University softball team dropped a pair of games today (Wednesday, March 11) at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.
LHU (2-8) fell to Ohio Dominican (1-14), 5-3, before being edged out by No. 21 Indianapolis (11-4), 2-1 in a thriller.
Highlighting the day was
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton), who hit a solo home run in each game.
Game 1 (Ohio Dominican) Recap: L, 5-3 Smith's first home run of the season cleared the left-center fence and cut the Ohio Dominican lead to one, 3-2, in the top of the third.
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) was 2-for-3 at the plate and she drove in one run.
Lock Haven's three runs came off seven total hits.
Game 2 (#21 Indianapolis) Recap: L, 2-1 Smith was at it again and drilled a solo homer to deep leftfield in the bottom of the third, putting LHU up 1-0.
Indianapolis struck for two in the top of the fifth and it proved to be the difference in the game.
Starting pitcher
Jessie Probst (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was strong through five innings, striking out five, while allowing just four hits.
Mouillesseaux was strong in relief and didn't allow a hit over the final two innings. She struck out a pair as her and Probst combed for seven K's vs. Indy.
Tomorrow (Thursday) marks an off day for LHU. The Lady Eagles return to play on Friday, March 13 with games against Northwood (9 a.m.) and Pace (11 a.m.).
