Softball downs Northwood 7-1, falls to Pace 3-0

LHU tags Northwood for seven runs on 14 hits in 7-1 win; Lock Haven drops game two to Pace, 3-0

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lock Haven University softball team (3-9) split games today at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.
 
Lock Haven's offense powered by Northwood (2-10), 7-1, before falling to Pace (2-0), 3-0.
 
Game 1 (Northwood) Recap: W, 7-1
 
Lock Haven's offense exploded and scored seven runs on 14 hits.
 
Sarah Schwalm (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) was the leader as she went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored.
 
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) drilled her third home run of the year. It was her third home in as many games and highlighted a five-run inning for Lock Haven in the top of fourth.
 
Four different Lady Eagles went 2-for-4, including Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown).
 
Jessie Probst (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) struck out five on the way to the win.
 
Game 2 (Pace) Recap: L, 3-0
 
LHU and Pace combined for just nine hits, including four from Lock Haven in what proved to be a battle of two strong pitchers. In the end, Pace held strong and won 3-0.
 
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) struck out five over seven innings pitched.
 
Weaknecht was the leader offensively, as she tried to spark the offense with a 2-for-3 plate performance.
 
LHU will play its final two games in Florida tomorrow (Saturday, March 12). The games will closeout a 14-game swing through the Sunshine State. Lock Haven takes on NYIT (5 p.m.) and Saint Michael's College (7 p.m.) tomorrow night.
