Game Recap: Softball |

Haven wraps up play in Florida, splits pair of games

LHU’s rally falls short in game one as Haven falls to NYIT, 5-3; Bats carry Lock Haven past Saint Michael’s, 9-1 (4 ½ innings) in game two

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lock Haven University softball team (4-10) earned a split on its final day of play at the 2015 NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

Despite a rally in the seventh inning, LHU dropped game one of the night to NYIT (4-3), 5-3. The Haven responded in a big way however and scored nine runs on 11 hits in a 9-1 (4 ½ innings) win over Saint Michael's (0-2).

Game 1 (NYIT) Recap: L, 5-3

Trailing NYIT 5-1 after six innings, LHU struck up some magic. Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) drilled a two-out, two-run home run to deep left-centerfield, cutting the lead to two, 5-3.

LHU was able to load the bases as the rally continued, but the Bald Eagles couldn't sneak another run by and NYIT hung on for the victory.

Game 2 (Saint Michael's) Recap: W, 9-1

Lock Haven made the most of its final game in Florida and the offense exploded for nine runs on 11 hits in just four innings.

LHU scored twice in the first, once in the second and tacked on six runs in the bottom of the third.

Highlighting the six-run third inning was Sarah Schwalm (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin), who hit an inside-the-park home run, that scored three for LHU. She finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs.

Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) scattered three hits, struck out three and allowed no walks on the way to her first win of the season.

Today's games wrapped a 14-game swing through the Sunshine State.

Lock Haven is scheduled to open PSAC East play on Friday, March 20 at East Stroudsburg (2:30 p.m.).
