SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (4-6, 3-1 PSAC) split with Shippensburg University (4-11, 1-3 PSAC) on the road today in the series finale at a windy Fairchild Field.
LHU dropped game one, 8-2, but the Bald Eagles won game two, 10-8.
All four games of the series were played at Shippensburg because of poor field conditions at Foundation Field, with LHU tabbed as the home team in both games today.
Game 1 Recap: L, 8-2 Box Score Ryan Henritzy (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North),
Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate Univ.) and
Justin Sleigh (Dubois, Pa/Dubois) all had two hits in game one for LHU.
In the sixth inning, Botts hit a solo home run to left field and the senior finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
It was Botts' second homer of the season.
Henritzy also went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the game.
Shippensburg scored four runs in each of the first two innings, jumping out to an early, 8-0 lead.
The Red Raiders hit three homeruns in the game, including a grand slam by Jake Kennedy in the first inning.
Game 2 Recap: W, 10-8 Box Score SHIP jumped out to an early, 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two thanks to RBIs from Kennedy and left fielder Dalton Holles.
After two scoreless innings, the Bald Eagle the bats came alive in the third.
With two runners on, Henritzy delivered an RBI double to left to make the score, 2-1.
After a Botts walk loaded the bases,
Ethan Moore (Williamsport, Pa/Loyalsock) tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Sleigh added an RBI single to give LHU the lead, 3-2 after three innings.
Tyson Petersheim (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) and Henritzy stayed hot for The Haven in the fourth. After Petersheim led off the inning with a single up the middle, Henritzy hit a bomb down left field line, making it 5-2 LHU.
It was Henritzy's first home run of the year.
The Red Raiders cut Lock Haven's lead to, 5-4 after 4.5 innings, but the Bald Eagles answered. LHU added three more runs in the fifth, highlighted by RBIs from
Kolton VonKiel (Alburtis, Pa/ West Mont) and
Ryan Koch (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) which increased Lock Haven's lead to, 8-4.
Shippensburg would not go away quietly, however. After loading the bases, the Red Raiders tacked on two runs in the top half of the sixth, cutting LHU's lead to, 8-6.
In the home half of the sixth, with a runner on,
Mike Agosto (Bushkill,Pa/Northhampton C.C.) hit his first homerun as a Bald Eagle, a two-run shot to left field that cushioned LHU's lead to, 10-6.
Agosto finished the game 2-for-2 with a home run, a triple and two RBIs.
The Red Raiders threatened again in the seventh, scoring two more runs, but Lock Haven held on for the win, 10-8.
Chad Speigle (Morrisdale, Pa, West Branch) started on the mound and picked up the win after 4.1 innings of work.
Speigle struck out five in the win.
Today's split earned the Bald Eagles a, 3-1 series win over Shippensburg and marks The Haven's first PSAC series win since April 2012.
Lock Haven returns to action this weekend, when the Bald Eagles take on Bloomsburg for a PSAC weekend series. The Haven will travel to Bloomsburg on Friday (March 20th) and LHU is scheduled to host the Huskies on Saturday (March 21st) at Foundation Field.
First pitch on both Friday and Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
