LHU & Millersville open series, Marauders take two

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (4-10, 3-5 PSAC East) and Millersville (20-6, 7-3 PSAC East) opened a four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East series today at LHU and the Marauders took the first two of four.

Millersville edged Lock Haven, 3-2 in eight innings in game one and the Marauders picked up the sweep with a 6-2 victory in game two.

Today's doubleheader marked the first official home game of the 2015 season for the Bald Eagles. It also marked the very first time LHU played at Foundation Field under first-year coach Jim Chester.

Game 1 Recap: L, 3-2 (8 innings)

Millersville spoiled an outstanding outing for LHU pitcher Jacob Belinda (Port Matilda, Pa./Tyrone) in game one. Belinda went head-to-head with two-time PSAC East Pitcher of the Year Chris Murphy of Millersville, but the Marauders scored one run in the seventh and eighth inning to cap the comeback.

Belinda turned in seven innings of strong work. He scattered six hits and struck out six on the way to the no-decision. He gave up two runs (1 earned) and issued just two walks.

Trailing 1-0, LHU scored twice in the bottom of the six.

LHU looked to put it away, but Millersville tied the game in the top of the seventh and scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the eighth, as the two teams needed extra innings.

LHU tagged Murphy for eight hits and a pair of runs.

Ryan Orgitano (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) picked up  a pair of hits. The Bald Eagles other six hits came from six different players.

Game 2 Recap: L, 6-2

In game two, Millersville scored six runs on 10 hits.

The Bald Eagles recorded two runs on five hits.

All five hits came from five different players, including Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate Univ.), who doubled to left-centerfield in the bottom, driving in a run.

Lock Haven and Millersville will get right back to it tomorrow (Monday, March 30) with a pair of games at Millersville's Cooper Park.
