LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (5-3) picked up a pair of wins today, capping a perfect 4-0 weekend at the LHU Angelina Miele Memorial Tournament.
The Bald Eagles beat LIU Post and Shepherd to move to 5-3 overall on the season.
Lock Haven opened the day with a thrilling four-set win over LIU Post, who had been on a recent tear. LHU won 3-1 (25-23, 28-30, 25-15 & 25-17).
LHU closed tournament play with a 3-0 victory over Shepherd tonight, winning 25-14, 25-11 and 25-23.
In the win over LIU Post, the Bald Eagles got double-digit kills from four different players including
Sarah Gomish (Ebensburg, Pa./Bishop Carroll), who had 14.
Megan Flick (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle) added 12, and
Gabrielle Stala (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and
Brittany Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain each recorded 10. Moyer hit .333 and had just one error.
Gomish added 17 digs and Flick tallied 27.
Jessica Brown (Fawn Grove, Pa./Kennard-Dale) directed the offense with 41 assists. She added 13 digs.
Sydney Belcastro (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) had 21 digs.
A 16-kill effort helped Lock Haven get off to another strong start vs. Shepherd. The Bald Eagles hit .368 as a team in the opening set and rolled from there to cap the perfect day and perfect weekend.
Gomish hit a red-hot .385 with 13 kills and Moyer added another 11.
LHU also got seven aces in the win.
Brown handed out 24 assists.
LHU will return to action next Saturday, September 19 when the Bald Eagles take on Chestnut Hill College and Felician College.
