ERIE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (8-4, 1-1 PSAC) opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play today and the Bald Eagles split a pair of crossover matches.
The Bald Eagles opened the day with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-20 & 25-17) win over Slippery Rock, but LHU dropped its second match of the day to host-Gannon 3-1 (26-24, 16-25, 25-19 & 25-19).
Sarah Gomish (Ebensburg, Pa./Bishop Carroll) led the way in the win over SRU, knocking down 15 kills.
Megan Flick (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle) continued her torrid pace and hit .367 with 14 kills and just three errors. Rookie
Brittany Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) also remained in form and added 12 kills.
Moyer added 16 digs and
Sydney Belcastro (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) recorded 23.
Jessica Brown (Fawn Grove, Pa./Kennard-Dale) led the offense with 44 assists.
LHU dropped the first set vs. Slippery Rock, but the Bald Eagles got the offense going and hit .314, .300 and .310, respectively in the second, third and fourth set to put The Rock away.
Lock Haven also benefitted from seven aces, including three from Moyer.
Despite the loss to Gannon, Flick turned in another strong individual effort, finishing with a match-high 17 kills. Gomish added 12.
Brown dished out 38 assists and added 13 digs. She now has 983 career digs as she inches toward the 1,000-dig plateau.
LHU remains in Erie and heads to Mercyhurst tomorrow for a pair of matches. Lock Haven takes on Edinboro at 12:30 p.m. and plays host-Mercyhurst at 6 p.m.
