LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team scored twice in each half and cruised by visiting and rival East Stroudsburg University, 4-2 tonight in a huge Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) showdown.
The win marked the third straight for the Bald Eagles, who improved to 4-3-1 overall and 3-1 PSAC action. Lock Haven's three straight wins have all come against conference opponents.
After tonight's win, LHU sits in a tie for third place in the PSAC standings.
Leading the way tonight for LHU was
Troy Amspacher (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley), who scored twice.
Asher Klahold (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and
Zach Hommey (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) added goals.
Christian Bukowski and James McMaon scored for ESU (5-3, 2-3 PSAC).
Bukowski put the Warriors up 1-0 just 5:23 into the match.
LHU leveled the match in the 22
nd minute after Amspacher scored the first of his two goals. He bended a 20-yard free kick around a wall and off the near post for the goal.
Klahold made it 2-1 LHU in the 37
th minute when he blasted a free kick from 25 yards out – far post – and into the upper corner.
ESU tied the game in the 67
th minute.
Amspacher put Lock Haven back on top in the 71
st minute when the calmly tucked a penalty kick past a diving ESU goalie. Ampsacher's second goal of the game made it 3-2.
Hommey gave the Bald Eagles the insurance they needed in the 84
th minute when he sent a scorcher toward the net, leaving ESU goalie Will Boerema little chance.
Gage Rims (Rosedale, Md./Loch Raven) led a strong defensive effort.
LHU heads to NYIT on Wednesday, September 30 for a 4 p.m. match.
