TOWSON, Md. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (4-0) is off to its best start since 2004 thanks to a dominating 5-1 victory today at Towson (0-4) in non-conference action.
With the win, LHU remained perfect in 2015 at 4-0. The 4-0 start matches the Bald Eagles 4-0 start in 2004.
Junior
Kiersten Cepeda (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and freshman
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) each scored two goals, and
Colleen McCabe (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent) added one.
Despite the dominating 70 minute performance that saw LHU outshoot the Tigers 19-4, Lock Haven found itself in an early 1-0 hole.
Towson scored first 4:25 into the match, but it was all Lock Haven from there.
Cepeda put LHU up 1-0 in the 12
th minute and The Haven scored four second-half goals on the way to Lock Haven's fourth win of the young season.
Freshman
Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport) recorded a pair of assists.
Lock Haven's defensive unit can't go unmentioned either as it turned in another sensational effort in front goalkeeper
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon). In four games, LHU's defense has allowed just two goals.
LHU returns to action next Saturday, September 12 at Colgate (1 p.m.).
