Women’s Basketball falls to West Chester in double-overtime thriller

Haven edged 59-55 despite Mealing’s big double-double

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (7-12, 4-11 PSAC) dropped a double-overtime thriller today against West Chester University (13-5, 10-4 PSAC) 59-55 at Thomas Fieldhouse.
 
Defense was the story in this one, as both teams shot under 30% for the game.
 
Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) had a monster game for LHU.  Mealing scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down 18 rebounds for the double-double.  It marks the second consecutive game where Mealing grabbed 18 boards.
 
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) netted 16 points and to go along with six assists and three rebounds.
 
Rachael McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J./California (Pa.) Univ.) scored 10 points on the day.
 
Lock Haven trailed 25-19 at the halftime break, but The Haven answered with a big third quarter, outscoring the Golden Rams 20-11 in the period.
 
West Chester would come back to tie the game and force overtime.  Lock Haven was unable to get much going on offense in the extra frames, scoring nine points in the two 10 minute periods.
 
Dallas Ely led West Chester with 19 points.
 
Lock Haven returns to action on Saturday, January 30 when LHU kicks off a three-game road trip beginning at Mansfield University.  Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
