MANSFIELD, Pa. – With just 1:02 left in double overtime, freshman
Hayleigh Swam (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) netted the game's only goal lifting the Lock Haven University women's soccer team (5-7, 4-7 PSAC) past host Mansfield University (2-9-1, 2-9 PSAC) 1-0 in a double-OT Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) battle.
Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) played a through ball in past the Mansfield defense and Swam ran onto it, and broke away before slotting the ball home for the walk-off Haven victory.
LHU is now 5-7 overall (4-7 PSAC), marking the most wins in a single-season since 2011. The four conference wins are the most since 2011 as well.
The two teams combined for 43 shots during regulation, but neither team could break through on the scoresheet over 90 minutes.
The Bald Eagles had the only shot in the first overtime, but Mansfield goalkeeper Rachel Fox turned away
Ella Jones' (Mohnton, Pa./Reading Area CC) shot.
Lock Haven's defensive unit was sensational for the entire match and kept LHU in it.
Haven goalkeeper
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) was brilliant and finished with 14 saves. The 14-save effort is the best outing by a LHU goalkeeper since 2013 (Dana Wozniak, 13 saves vs. Mercyhurst (9/5/13)).
LHU will return to action on Thursday, October 13 at noon when the Bald Eagles travel to Gannon University.
